The control system not only optimizes the trajectory to result in maximum speed with minimum vibration, it also adapts to the changes in load. When filters are added or removed, the controller parameters must be adjusted in order to maintain peak performance. A built-in adaptation mechanism takes care of these adjustments providing optimum performance no matter what the operating conditions are.

Servo Motor Advantage

Encoder feedback sensors on the servo motors enable reliable operation compared to a stepper-motor-based open-loop motion system where step skipping may occur. However, the advantages of servo motors come at a cost of increased circuitry and controller complexity. This is addressed with state-of-the-art semiconductor components, a high-performance DSP (Digital Signal Processor), and a sophisticated control algorithm.

Unmatched Performance

High-performance servo motors featuring rare earth magnets coupled with backlash-free power transfer provide ultimate torque which translates to ultimate speed. Adjacent filter distance is traveled in as fast as 23ms on the HS-625 model and 30ms on the HS-632, HS-1025 and HS-1032 models, while the longest distance (180 degree wheel turn corresponding to three filter positions on the HS-625 and HS-632 and five positions on the HS-1025 and HS-1032) is covered in 45ms on the HS-625 model and 90ms on the HS-632, HS-1025 and HS-1032 models.

Wheel Design

Weight-reduction features have been added to the wheel design for maximum speed. High accuracy and reliable operation is achieved by using custom designed components and precision machining. The filter wheel doubles as a pulley, reducing the number of parts necessary for efficient power transfer and maximizing the torque delivered by the motor.

Deep Pocket for Filters

Deep Pockets

HS filter pockets accommodate a wide selection of filters up to 9mm thick. The HS-1025 model holds up to ten filters with 25mm diameter; HS-1032 holds up to ten 32mm filters; the HS-625 holds up to six 25mm filters; the HS-632 holds up to six 32mm filters. Additional flexibility is provided by combining the 32mm wheels with optional 32mm-to-25mm adapters or other custom holders. The filters are secured in place by threaded retainers.

An oversized opening complemented by a threaded lid provide convenient access for filter replacement eliminating the need to disassemble the unit.

On the HS-1025 and HS-1032 models, the current filter selection as well as the position aligned with the filter replacement port is indicated through small openings near the wheel pivot. On the HS-625 and HS-632 models, the filter pocket index is visible when replacing the filters through the access port.

Intergrated Electronics

Integrated Electronics

All of the drive and control electronics facilitating the functionality of the HS models are contained in the filter wheel housing. This convenient solution eliminates the need for an external controller and the associated wiring hassles. It is still possible to operate multiple filter wheels through the same serial port by connecting them in daisy-chained mode. Simply connect a computer to the incoming port and a second wheel to the outgoing one to achieve functionality equivalent to a two-wheel system driven by a central control unit. Up to three filter wheels can be operated from the same serial port. Aside from motor drive and control circuitry, the integrated circuit board features a shutter controller allowing for a direct connection of a shutter without the need of external drive electronics.
